Sport Niagara Coaches & Officials Summit
Event Date: sep. 19, 2014 - sep. 21, 2014
The Sport Niagara Coaches & Officials Summit is a unique opportunity for individuals to truly immerse themselves in a valuable learning environment. This conference will rely on the in-depth transfer of knowledge to allow coaches within the Niagara Region and beyond to develop their skill set and become more capable in their sporting endeavours.
By taking part in this opportunity for professional development, the Niagara Sport Commission looks to bring together 15 to 20 sport specific National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) opportunities reaching upwards of 250 participants. Above this, the conference will also include additional social opportunities, including guest speakers, panel discussions, and the like, that will enhance the overall experience of participants.
Currently, a wide range of offerings have been confirmed for this inaugural conference, including: Basketball (Level 1 & Level 2), IRB Rugby Sevens (Level 1 & Level 2), Volleyball (Level 1), Making Ethical Decisions, Coaching & Leading Effectively, and Nutrition, among others. These offerings will look to introduce several beneficial training and professional development opportunities across various levels and sports.
Additionally, the Canadian Paralympic Committee has agreed to partner with the Niagara Sport Commission and will be offering their Changing Minds, Changing Lives session on Saturday, September 20th from 12-1PM. The session will be presented by Andrew Haley, a world champion and Paralympic swimmer. Changing Minds, Changing Lives looks to inform conference delegates about how to use sport as a vehicle for the rehabilitation and reintegration of persons with a physical disability into the community and on to the playing field. This session will be completely free for conference delegates!
In developing this conference, the overarching goal is to bring multiple opportunities to participants within a single setting, going beyond just a single course to include multiple modules and development opportunities for coaches and officials.
