2016 CCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship
Event Date: mar. 9, 2016 - mar. 12, 2016
In recent seasons, the Douglas Royals have made a habit of attending CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championships. This March, the PACWEST institution will get to host one.
Douglas College is set to host the event, which will take place in New Westminster, BC, March 9-12, 2016.
“We are confident this event will serve as a platform for high performance sport, student engagement, and experiential learning for the participating teams and the entire College community,” said Brian McLennon, Manager of Athletics at Douglas.
“Douglas College is excited and privileged to host our fellow member institutions from across the country,” he said.
Canadian Paralympian Rick Hansen and wheelchair basketball coach Tim Frick have confirmed their involvement at the event. In addition, to celebrate the heritage and culture of the New West Qayqayt First Nation community, a traditional welcoming will be part of official opening ceremony at the National Championship Banquet.
Douglas, which has captured 41 national titles and 52 provincial crowns, hosted CCAA National Championships in 2012 and 2003 (Men’s Soccer) and 2008 (Badminton).
“As proud members of the PACWEST and the CCAA, the Royals have a rich and successful history in participating and hosting National Championship events,” said McLennon. “Our men’s volleyball program consistently performs at the highest echelon of the sport and continues to have a presence on the national stage,” he said.
