Creating Inclusion of Newcomers in Sport and Physical Activity- Free Webinar
Event Date: oct. 30, 2018
10:00am
Many newcomers to Canada – including refugees and immigrants – experience unique barriers to accessing quality sport, physical activity, and recreation programs. Connecting to community activities and accessing the resources available is often complex, yet sport can play a vital role in newcomers’ sense of belonging. Newcomers can also bring a renewal and sense of vibrancy to sport and recreation organizations. In this webinar, presenters will discuss research and on the ground experience in providing quality experiences for newcomers in sport and recreation. Lessons will be shared about accessibility and inclusion in our sport clubs and programs, including the challenges and possible solutions and opportunities. How can we as a sport/recreation community do more to ensure diversity in our participants? We will also hear personal experiences from an individual who immigrated to Canada and has been involved in a local multi-sport program tailored for newcomers.
