Canadian Fencing Federation - The women’s junior foil team received a 7^th place finish at the World Cup in Bucharest on December 8^th, 2019. The team of Ying Cao (TFC, Ontario), Jane Caulfield (EFC, Alberta), Cynthia Liu (OTT, Ontario), and Isabella Sabatini (TFC, Ontario) faced the host team of Romania in the first round, coming out victorious 44-20. Unfortunately, they found defeat in the quarter-finals against Russia. The Italian team, who earned a bye in the first round, climbed to the top of the podium with ease, beating out their opponents Ukraine (45-20), Poland (45-22), and Germany (45-25). This was the last World Cup competition for these Canadian juniors before the holiday season.

Next week, senior men’s and women’s foil, junior men’s and women’s epee, and senior women’s sabre athletes will participate in their last FIE competition of 2019.

As well, registration for the Grand Prix Open in Montreal is open. This event is for sabre athletes and will be held on January 2^nd. The top ranked individuals from this one-day event will earn an invitation to the Sabre Grand Prix in Montreal, January 10-12, 2020.
