2016 Annual Conference Call for Presentations
You are invited to join us in sharing best practices, and to join other leaders who see the value in promoting physical activity in our Aboriginal communities.
This is the nation's largest conference on Physical Activity for First Nations, Métis and Inuit people, created for all of those with an interest in sports, recreation, fitness, and traditional activity who may be band council members; health directors, representatives, or health practitioners; counsellors or social workers; federal, provincial, or municipal health employees; academics; researchers; recreation workers; coaches; fitness instructors; cultural leaders; community members, and all others interested in the promotion of health and wellness through physical activity.
The Aboriginal Physical Activity & Cultural Circle is hosting the conference to provide a networking and education opportunity. In addition there will be also a tradeshow for Aboriginal organizations and mainstream businesses to share their services and products.
2016 CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
The National Aboriginal Physical Activity Conference is the nation's premier event celebrating physical activity in the Aboriginal community. We are calling for presentations, educational sessions, research and educational posters to be a part of the 4th Annual National Aboriginal Physical Activity Conference.
Any person with an interest in physical activity in the Aboriginal community is invited to submit session proposals or original research for presentations during the 2016 conference.
Presentations
APACC is soliciting session proposals for the 2016 National Aboriginal Physical Activity Conference, to be held April 28th & 29th, 2016, at Langara College, in Vancouver BC. This is an opportunity to share effective models, policies, research, “hands on” workshops and information and provide your community with insights and best practices solving many of the issues confronted by Aboriginal communities. Please consider contributing a session!
The National Aboriginal Physical Activity Conference is an interactive experience designed for people involved in promoting physical activity. We are looking for presentations covering physical activity, sports and recreation, fitness, traditional activities, leadership, various educational “how to” presentations and prevention of various issues that effect our Aboriginal communities rural and urban. We are particularly interested in “hands on’ presentations/workshops and research work. There's sure to be something to share and learn!
Presentation Submission Information and General Instructions
1. Submissions must be relevant to the theme of Aboriginal physical activity, health, sports and recreation, fitness and/or traditional activities. Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed.
2. Submissions must be received no later than December 11, 2015.
3. Do not submit a paper submission. Only electronic abstracts will be accepted by email: Aboriginalpacc@gmail.com
4. Presenters may not use any conference presentation to market products or services; exhibit space is available for that purpose.
5. If accepted, presenters must register for the conference. As a gesture of our appreciation for all the hard work in preparing your presentation, we will give a 75% discount on registration fees ($96.25 total registration fee owed) for 1 hour or more presentations, or 50% discount for 15 minute panel presentation fees ($192.50 total registration fee owed). All travel expenses are NOT included for reimbursement (i.e. airfare, hotel, taxis, meals, incidentals).
6. The standard audio/visual equipment provided by APACC will include internet connection, an LCD projector and microphone (more equipment may be available upon request). Phone line and other A/V equipment will NOT be provided. If needed, it will be the responsibility of the presenters to make arrangements and provide payment for such equipment.

The Aboriginal Physical Activity & Cultural Circle Association invites individuals with an interest in health, sports and recreation, fitness or traditional activities research, to submit abstracts for presentation during the National Aboriginal Physical Activity Conference. Members of the Aboriginal Physical Activity & Cultural Circle Board of Directors will consider the submissions for presentation. Presenters will be selected competitively through a blind review process.
Abstract submissions will be considered in three separate categories, each of which matches a presentation format at the conference. Abstracts can:
• Focus on original descriptive or analytic studies using quantitative or qualitative methods;
• Relate to policy issues in the general field of health that affect Aboriginal populations or providers; or
• Describe innovative practices, or training or teaching techniques.
Presentation Formats:
Workshops:
Workshops are 1 hour. They may feature presentations that emphasize the theory and application of practical skills or research methods and may include multiple presenters. We are currently most interested in Workshops that have a focus on:
Sports/Physical Activity: Workshops that have a focus on or physical activity ie. Best Coaching practices
Research: Workshops that focus on research issues related to sports, physical activity and health. i.e. Developing researcher-community agreements; Photovoice training.
Workshops can be done lecture style or with a more active approach. Depending on workshop format space requirements for workshops should be specified (e.g., classroom or gym).
