Ashley LaBrie Concludes Successful Tenure as Executive Director of Athletescan
November 3, 2019
AthletesCAN - November 4, 2019 (OTTAWA, ON) - AthletesCAN President, Dasha Peregoudova announced today that after 13 years with the organization, Executive Director Ashley LaBrie will be leaving AthletesCAN to spend more time with her family, and pursue new challenges and opportunities.
“Under Ashley’s leadership, AthletesCAN has positioned itself as leader in the global athlete voice movement while delivering increased training and support to Canadian athletes with issues ranging from grassroots to sophisticated, international advocacy initiatives,” said Peregoudova. “I know that our Canadian national team athletes from all sports, as well as stakeholders in Canadian and foreign jurisdictions are extremely appreciative of Ashley’s work as a true leader in sport.”
“It has been my passion and an absolute honour to have worked for this organization for the last 13 years,” said Ashley LaBrie. “I have had the pleasure of meeting and training over 1,000 athlete representatives and have listened to and supported hundreds more in my day to day. That is what has motivated me – AthletesCAN, no matter how public facing or behind the scenes, makes a difference in the lives of our athletes as people first.”
“Over the last four years as Executive Director, with the vision and courage of incredible board members and athlete leaders including our past President Josh Vander Vies and current President Dasha Peregoudova – we have been able to expand the impact of the association from national representation to organizing and leading international athlete-centered conversations and driving positive change at the highest level for our Canadian athletes,” LaBrie added. “I could not have asked for a better time in sport to stand up for athletes, or for a better group of people to work with in the process. For that I am truly grateful. This has always been an organization for athletes, by athletes, and I have no doubt that AthletesCAN will continue to knock down barriers and influence policy to ensure the athlete voice is heard, respected, and valued at every level.”
AthletesCAN is excited to announce that Georgina Truman, who has worked with the organization in a variety of capacities, has accepted a term role as the Manager, Athlete Relations & Operations. Georgina brings a unique and valuable skillset to AthletesCAN, and has worked closely with Ashley on key projects for a number of years. Given that AthletesCAN is in a strategic planning year, she is well-positioned to lead the organization’s operations through this period of transition.
“Given the unique nature of AthletesCAN and the important work it does in the sport community, continuity among leadership is integral,” says Peregoudova. “The Board of Directors has complete confidence in Georgina’s abilities to oversee all of the day-to-day operations, as well as lead a variety of initiatives with the Board and Committees supporting her, while we engage the community to create our Strategic Plan, 2020-2024.”
AthletesCAN thanks Ashley for all of her tremendous work, dedication and contributions as she leaves the organization in a strong position, as an integral part of the high performance sport system in Canada and a global leader in athlete representation. She will be greatly missed by her peers, system stakeholders, and of course, the athletes that she has tirelessly supported for so many years. We know that whatever Ashley choses to do next, she will excel in every way.
