Multi-Nations Event – First Half

November 14, 2019

Bowls Canada - Play begins today at the Multi-Nations Event in Gold Coast, Australia. The event will take place from November 18 to 24 at Club Helensvale, Musgrave Hill, and Broadbeach Bowls Clubs. The event consists of teams from Australia, Canada, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, Norfolk Island, South Africa, and Wales.

The first half of the event will feature women’s singles and fours, while the men will compete in pairs and triples. With a two hour and fifteen-minute time limit, games will take place at 8:45am, 12:00pm, and 2:45pm local time each day from November 18 to November 20 for the round robin games and semifinals. All final matches will take place on November 24.

Men’s Pairs
John Bezear (Toronto, ON), formerly from Australia, will be teaming up with Ryan Bester (Hanover, ON), currently residing in Gold Coast, Australia to compete in the men’s pairs discipline. Bezear and Bester have had success on the international stage before, winning a bronze medal for Canada at the 2012 World Championships in men’s pairs.

Men’s Triples
Cameron LeFresne (Enfield, NS) and Greg Wilson (Cochrane, AB) will team up with Rob Law (Winnipeg, MB) in the triples. LeFresne and Wilson have joined forces previously in the Commonwealth Games and the Asia Pacific Championships. Law, who secured a bronze medal at the Asia Pacific Championships in men’s pairs, should fit in nicely with LeFresne and Wilson, and should be able to hold their own against the field.

Women’s Singles
Kelly McKerihen (Toronto, ON) will be representing Canada once more in the women’s singles discipline. After a 4th place finish at the Commonwealth Games, followed by a quarter-final exit at the Asia Pacific Championships, McKerihen will be hungry to make it to the podium.

Women’s Fours
Leanne Chinery (Victoria, BC), Jordan Kos (Regina, SK), Joanna Cooper (Calgary, AB) and Jackie Foster (Bridgetown, NS) will form Canada’s women’s fours team. This squad will look to build on their momentum from the Asia Pacific Championships where they finished with a 6-2 record before taking a tough loss in the quarter-finals.
