MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition… Do it!) - an important lifestyle intervention program in BC.

WHAT IS THIS WEBINAR ABOUT?

MEND is a free, 10-week program that health professionals can recommend to families with children aged 7-13 who are departing the healthy weight trajectory and whose BMI is at or above the 85th percentile for age.

In this webinar, leading experts working to curb childhood obesity in BC, including Dr. Tom Warshawski, Pediatrician and Chair of the Childhood ObesityFoundation andDr. PJ Naylor, University of Victoria and Board Member of the Childhood ObesityFoundation, will share more detail about this important evidence-based intervention, describe the benefits and success stories, and make themselves available to share their experiences and answer any questions you might have.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

The Fall 2016 MEND programs are currently underway, and the team is keen to recruit participants for programs in early 2017.

In this session you will:

  • Learnabout why an early intervention program like MEND is integral to addressing overweight and obesity in children
  • Hearmore details about the MEND program such as who delivers it, where it is offered, how intake works, and what families and children can expect from the experience
  • HearMEND evaluation evidence, based on evaluation of close to 900 BC children and their families
  • Find outhow you can recommend your families and where you can go for more information
  • Discoverthe benefits and local success stories of MEND programs in BC
  • Have an Opportunityto ask questions about the MEND program and its results

There are three webinars targeting different sectors (education and health, recreation and sport professionals) but individuals can choose to attend one of the others. The core content will be the same but there may be small differences in the front end content and discussion after.
