National Interscholastic Athletics and After-School Safety and Security Summit
Event Date: Mar. 21, 2015 to Mar. 23, 2015
The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at the University of Southern Mississippi in conjunction with the National Federation of State High School Federations (NFHS), National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) and the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) will be hosting a National Interscholastic Athletics and After School Safety and Security Summit on March 21-23, 2015 at the National Center in Hattiesburg, MS. The main objective of the Summit is to address the key critical safety and security challenges facing high school administrators for interscholastic athletics and after school activities.
The Summit will provide a mechanism to share ideas, and explore solutions to develop best practices through addressing designated major safety and security issues. The target audience consists of superintendents, principals, athletic administrators, local law enforcement, school resource officers, emergency managers, fire/HAZMAT, facility administrators, and board of education members.
NCS4 conducted a nation-wide survey and conducted three national curriculum pilots to gather feedback on current safety and security issues facing high school administrators and response teams. The results of the survey and pilots identified six major safety and security issues (mentioned below).
The attendees at the Summit will have an opportunity to participate in moderated discussions (round robin format) for each of the designated issues: GameDay/Activities Safety and Security; Emergency Operations Planning; Identifying Threats and Hazards; Safety and Security Staff Training; Facilities Design/Environment; and Building Safety and Security Aware Culture.
