Whistler Sport Legacies to hold first “Physical & Health Literacy Summit” on October 20

Whistler, BC: Local sport and recreation facilitators, health and childcare workers, parents and everyone involved in sport programming for youth are invited to join Whistler Sport Legacies for the Sea to Sky Corridor’s first annual “Physical & Health Literacy Summit”, taking place on October 20, 2017.

The full-day event (8:30am to 4:00pm) at the Whistler Athletes’ Centre will give insights into what physical literacy and health literacy are, and provide tips for facilitators of how to incorporate physical literacy activities into their training and coaching environment. Key note speakers will be Elisa Maruzzo, representing Canadian Sport For Life, as well as Erin Crawford and Amber Pascul from Making Movement Matter. The full-day program combines lectures, workshops and active sessions. Participation cost is $145 for the day. Among other perks, this price includes participation in two additional workshops (“Physical Literacy 101” on October 19 and "Count Me In" on October 20).

Lucinda Jagger, Sport Vice President of Whistler Sport Legacies, explains the idea behind the summit: “We want to create a permanent platform for knowledge and discussion for the local sport, recreation, health and education community. Knowing the concept of physical and health literacy is crucial for program facilitators, to help children and youth develop confidence in sports, enjoy movement and to ensure they stay active for life.”
