Caaws Announces Gender Equity Playbook Pilot Partners

November 10, 2019

CAAWS - CAAWS is excited to announce the six MSO and NSOs who will be piloting and supporting the development of our new Gender Equity Playbook

Alpine Canada, Athletics Canada, Rowing Canada, Canada Snowboard, Sport for Life, and Baseball Canada will be working with CAAWS over the next year to pilot the three Playbook steps: an e-learning module, an assessment, and an action planning service.

The Gender Equity Playbook is a capacity-building program to help sport organizations apply a gender lens in their day-to-day decision making and create a custom plan towards achieving gender equity.

“We firmly believe that sport organizations are made better through gender equity and we are delighted that these six partners have made such a strong commitment to change, not just for themselves, but for the sport system as a whole,” said Allison Sandmeyer-Graves, CEO of CAAWS. “This pilot process will ensure that the Playbook moves us towards our goal of making equitable sport a reality for women and girls in Canada.”

Quotes / Thoughts from our Pilot Partners:

"We look forward to being part of the CAAWS Gender Equity Playbook pilots. I think every organization needs to constantly look at themselves and evaluate next steps in trying to move the sport forward. Being in on this project will allow us to do that.” - Jim Baba, Executive Director, Baseball Canada

“As Alpine Canada enters our 100th year as Canada’s ski racing organization, we can look back to the past where gender equity in the coaching ranks was non-existent. Today, at the entry levels of coaching, the gender split is getting very equitable but there is still much more work still ahead of us at other coaching levels.  It is exciting to have the support of CAAWS both with this pilot and in all the topics they support.” – Brien Perry, Director, Domestic Sport, Alpine Canada

“Ensuring gender equity across all areas of our organization is a high priority for us and we see this as an excellent opportunity to get a transparent overview of where Canada Snowboard currently is at in regard to ensuring equitable opportunities for women in Snowboarding. As a pilot NSO, we are really stoked to be able to collaborate with CAAWS to have input into the development of the Gender Equity Playbook.” – Dustin Heise, Executive Director, Canada Snowboard.
