The Anniversary will offer an opportunity to reflect upon our shared narrative. Observes often contend that sports in Canada have served to transcend our domestic differences and provided a rallying point around which Canadians take pride. Is this case? What would be the constitutive elements in the construction of a national sports history? Who are the principal “players’ in this history and what events characterize it? Is a national sports narrative a subtext of the broader Canadian story? How so? In what ways would tribute be paid to over a century of achievement in sports?

These questions will be addressed as part of a brown bag lunch which will also serve as an opportunity to look at potential collaboration between various partners in marking the 150th anniversary of Canada

Speakers will include Professor Don Morrow, University of Western Ontario.
Jack Jedwab from the Association for Canadian Studies will present results of a national survey of Canadian views on Sports: It’s Past, Present and Future

The event is a “brown bag” lunch event and will be held in the Douglas Cardinal Salon room at the Canadian Museum of History, 100 Laurier Street, Gatineau, Quebec.
