Group Brivia to support Canadian divers on their road to Tokyo

November 14, 2019

Diving Plongeon Canada - Montreal, November 14, 2019 – The Canadian diving team and Brivia Group will be soaring to great new heights in 2020 as the Montreal real estate developer announced its continued support of Canada’s top divers in connection with its new residential project:  1 Square Phillips.  Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, 1 Square Phillips will be the tallest residential building in the city once completed, 61 stories high and 232.50m above sea level.

Brivia Group has been supporting the Canadian diving team since 2018 through their YUL Condominiums project, also located in Montreal. Beginning this diving season, the national team whose new slogan is “We Fly | Plus Haut”, will proudly and fittingly wear the 1 Phillips Square logo on their team uniforms.

“The entire Brivia Group team, much like the Canadian diving team, works tirelessly to reach new heights of excellence with innovative real estate projects like 1 Square Phillips,” said M. Kheng Ly, Founder and CEO of Brivia Group. “We are proud to partner again with Canada’s Diving Team. To the athletes, as well as to all the people who help them shine and achieve their goals worldwide on a daily basis year-round, we extend our very best wishes."

The sponsorship was unveiled with less than a month to go before the beginning of the countdown to the 2020 Olympics. In the lead-up to Tokyo, Canadian divers will be focussing on the following critical events:

  • The Winter National Championships (Saskatoon, December 12-15, 2019), which will serve as the selection trials for the FINA Diving World Cup;
  • The FINA Diving World Cup (Tokyo, April 21-26, 2020), which will be the last chance for the country to secure Olympic quota spots for Tokyo 2020, and will serve as the Olympic Games test event for diving;
  • The FINA Diving World Series, including the first stopover of the series in Montreal (February 28th to March 1st) which is being held for the third consecutive year at the Olympic Park Sports Centre;
  • The FINA Diving Grand Prix – Canada Cup (Windsor, May 14-16), which is the last opportunity for Canada’s medal contenders to compete in an international event and make refinements to their competitive strategy before the Olympics;
  • The Summer Nationals Championships (TBC, May 22-24), which will serve as the final opportunity to contest for available spots on the Olympic team.

Diving Canada also took the opportunity to announce those divers who have been pre-selected to the 2020 World Cup team as a result of their superior performances in the 2019 season: Jennifer Abel (3m, 3m synchro), Meaghan Benfeito (10m, 10m synchro), Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu (3m synchro), Caeli McKay(10m synchro), Philippe Gagné (3m synchro) and François Imbeau-Dulac (3m synchro).

“Our Olympic journey is all about surpassing ourselves and leaving a mark in our community. I see a parallel with what Brivia Group is achieving here, in Montreal,” said Olympic medallist Jennifer Abel. “As athletes, we always try to reach new heights and it feels great to be supported by companies who share similar goals.”

The sponsorship announcement and the launching of 2020 diving season was made at the presentation centre for 1 Phillips Square in downtown Montreal.
